Ethics & Responsible Use

Using ChessSolveResponsibly

ChessSolve shows you Stockfish moves during live games. This is incredibly useful for learning, but it can also be misused. We won't pretend we can stop you from using it unfairly. Instead, we're asking you to think about why you play chess.

Why Engine Use in Rated Games Ruins Chess

You're not improving

Copying moves doesn't build your chess brain. Real improvement comes from struggle and understanding.

You're stealing rating

Your opponent thinks they're playing YOU, not Stockfish. Their rating loss is real, yours isn't earned.

You risk permanent bans

Chess.com and Lichess detect unusual accuracy patterns. Getting caught means permanent account bans.

You undermine the community

Online chess only works with trust. Every cheater makes the experience worse for everyone.

Where ChessSolve Shines

These are the contexts where real-time analysis genuinely helps you grow as a player.

Training Games

Play with a friend or coach where both of you see the hints. Compare your ideas with Stockfish's, discuss why moves work, and learn together.

Post-Game Analysis

Use our analysis board to review your completed games. No pressure, just pure learning. Go through each position at your own pace.

Playing Bots

Practice specific positions against computer opponents. The arrows help you spot patterns you'd miss otherwise.

Puzzle Practice

Solve tactics trainers with immediate feedback. Understand WHY the tactic works, not just that it exists.

Detection & Consequences

Chess.com and Lichess use sophisticated cheat detection:

Unusual move accuracy patterns — consistently playing at engine-level accuracy is a red flag.

Time patterns — pausing before good moves in a consistent pattern is detectable.

Engine correlation — high correlation with engine suggestions across many games triggers review.

Getting caught means permanent account bans. Not worth it.

Our Philosophy

We built ChessSolve because immediate visual feedback accelerates learning. Seeing arrows while considering a position creates stronger neural pathways than reviewing analysis afterward.

But this only works when you're LEARNING, not when you're COPYING.

Use ChessSolve to become a better chess player. Not to pretend you already are.
